Koi is the Japanese word for Carp. The ornamental
forms which have become so popular during this century are properly called Nishikigoi (brocaded or fancy carp). They are the most impressive of all pond
fish---large, long-lived, frequently highly colored and patterned, and tame
enough to eat out of your hand. Under ideal conditions they can reach 3 to 4 feet in size, even if space is somewhat limited, and live 200 years
(very ideal conditions).
