Lotus

Lotus need good rich garden soil and a large, no-holes planting container in which to grow. They also need plenty of space and no competition for light. You should have at least 2 to 4 inches of still water above the soil, but you may choose to set the potted lotus at the bottom of a pond. These plants need several weeks of 80°F temperatures and sunny weather in order to bloom. Lotus do extremely well in tub gardens or ponds of almost any size. During the growing season, lotus should be fed about twice a month. Like hardy water lilies, they may be left outside for the winter as long as the tubers are safe from freezing.  Plants are shipped bare root and will be available end of April to June.  Once they have begun to leaf out, they are virtually impossible to ship.
