*Bullfrog Tadpoles
(Rana
catesbeiana)

These large size tadpoles take
approximately two years to mature from fertilized egg to young frog. In
most cases, those you receive will make the transformation in about two
months, sometimes less. They eat insects, fish eggs, young fish, or
smaller tadpoles. This variety, when matured into frogs, is known for
being extremely vocal and can provide some loud nocturnal serenades.

Japanese Trapdoor Snails
(Viviparis
malleatus)

This variety of snail is a live-bearer, and is
considered extremely beneficial to any pond. As scavengers, they aid with
cleaning algae, decaying organic matter, and excess fish food. They do not eat
holes in live plant leaves. This is the only type of snail that you should
put in a pond! The recommended
stocking rate is one snail per square foot of pool surface. In colder regions,
snails will bury themselves in the mud of plant pots or at the pond bottom
during the winter. They will usually survive if they are below any ice formed.
DO NOT PUT SALT IN THE POND WITH SNAILS! IT WILL KILL THEM. |

*Turtles - Red-Earred
Sliders (Chrysemys scripta elegans)

This variety of turtle is a native from the
southeastern states to the Mid-Atlantic regions. By law, we are
not allowed to sell any turtles with the shell measuring less than 4".
Turtles add an interesting feature to any pond but, if they are able to
climb out of your pond----well most likely they'll disappear in a day or
2. You need to turtle proof your pond! Create steep sides,
don't move your plant pots too close to the edges, and give them an
island to sun themselves. Caution! If you don't don't feed
your turtles they will eat some of your fish! Our turtles
here are so lazy that they rather eat turtle food sticks than chase a
fish. |
